Local hotel gurus form investment fund

Local hotel executives Robert Solmson and Ed Ansbro have partnered with a New York businessman to launch a hotel investment fund. Fairwood Capital LLC will acquire full service hotels and maintain offices in Memphis and New York City. Solmson founded and is the former CEO of Memphis-based RFS Hotel Investors Inc., a hotel real estate investment trust which was acquired CNL Properties in 2003 for $700 million.

Boston's Pyramid Hotel Group Selected to Manage the Wylie Inn & Conference Center at Endicott Co

Pyramid Hotel Group, a Boston-based full service hotel management and advisory firm, was recently selected by Endicott College to manage the Wylie Inn & Conference Center located in Beverly, MA. The 92-room Inn is attached to the 17,500 square foot, IACC approved Wylie Conference Center and a 10,500 square foot historic mansion used for meetings and catering. The properties are owned by Endicott College.

FEMA may cover hotel costs for hurricane evacuees

The federal government says it will pay hotel expenses for some of the nearly 2 million people who fled their homes ahead of Hurricane Gustav, but exactly who will be eligible for assistance and how much it will cost taxpayers is uncertain. Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency planned a telephone news conference Thursday night to answer questions about the plan. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said Wednesday in Baton Rouge that FEMA would pay hotel costs "to make sure that people don't feel economic pressure to return home prematurely, before it's safe."

Bray and Gillespie, Inc. doing business as Ocean Waters Development Inc., petitioned the court for Chapter 11 relief Friday morning.Bray and Gillespie are also huge real estate developers in the area and have undertaken a number of condominium projects in recent years.

Encore Enterprises has announced that its Encore Hospitality subsidiary has acquired Destin-based Sterling Resorts LLC and Sterling Realty LLC from The Sterling Cos. through a stock purchase agreement.
