Engineering organization deemed ‘outstanding’

The University’s chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers was named an outstanding student chapter for 2008 by the nationwide organization. “Every year our student chapters committee awards recognition to a handful of student chapters based on their level of participation,” explained Gordon Ellis, head of student awards at AIChE, an organization that aims to advance the practice and theory of chemical engineering. Recognition is based on “the percentage of chemical engineering students who are members of the chapter.”

MBE for Devonport marine engineer

A WARRANT Officer from Plymouth has been awarded an MBE for his ground-breaking work with Devonport-based amphibious landing ship HMS Albion.

Andy Cray, a marine engineering specialist based at Devonport Naval Base, is responsible for the maintenance of 36 landing craft in the Royal Navy's fleet.

The 42-year-old said of the honour: "Being awarded a MBE is the ultimate accolade to a long and successful career."

Aker Solutions awarded drilling equipment contracts

Aker Solutions has been awarded two contracts by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) in Korea for delivery of drilling equipment for two ultra deepwater drillships. The total contract value for Aker Solutions is approximately USD 235 million.

The scope of work for Aker Solutions is to deliver complete drilling equipment packages consisting of engineering, equipment deliveries and commissioning services.
