Purchasing activity up, but at slower pace

Canadian purchasing activity rose at a slower pace in August, the Ivey Purchasing Managers Index showed on Friday, suggesting the country is feeling pressure from the U.S. economic slowdown.

The index, a joint project of the Purchasing Management Association of Canada and the Richard Ivey School of Business, fell to 51.5 in August from 65.5 in July. That missed market expectations for a reading of 63.0.

Norwalk implements new purchasing policy

A new purchasing policy for Norwalk city employees is designed to improve documentation, accountability and transparency.

The previous Norwalk City Council requested the update. It combines the spending procedures for conferences, meetings, credit cards and educational training into one policy, said Mark Miller, city administrator.

“It’s not really much different than what we had,” Miller said. “We’re putting in some additional budgetary controls so that we have a better understanding of what stuff is being charged prior to the event.”

Sumter changes purchasing policy

Sumter County officials think they have a new way of saving the county money and the plan already seems to be working.

The various county departments have been in charge when it comes to purchasing supplies and equipment for their individual departments.

In an effort to save both time and money, a new policy, effective Oct. 1, was recently approved by Sumter County commissioners allowing the county’s budget and purchasing department to take over purchasing equipment and supplies.
